This brings to a close the publishing program at EJS.

The Metropolitan Museum is exhibiting three EJS print portfolios (Lasker, Musgrave, Tobias) in an exhibition commemorating the 500 year anniversary of Durer's Melencholia. The exhibition is on view until July 14.

Christopher Wool recently spent five days working at EJS resulting in two series. Both sets employ soft ground etching and drypoint. Release date will be in the fall of 2014.

Liza Lou's untitled portfolio go eight etchings is now available.

The Jonas Wood eight print series will be released in March of this year.

Lari Pittman is working on a twelve print set of portraits.

Liza Lou has completed all work on her eight print untitled series which will be released at the end of the year.

Jonas Wood has complete four etchings of a planned series of eight.

Richard Tuttle came by for a day and made a two plate etching with spit-bite aquatint.

The image was made by dropping small balls of scotch tape randomly on graph paper and extrapolating linear and tonal elements from the chance configuration.

There are ten prints in the edition. They are signed on the back and numbered with Roman numerals.

Charline von Heyl series of eight prints entitled "Black Sun--the brief transit and violent eclipse of Harry Crosby" has been editioned. CvH will sign the prints at the end of May and the portfolio will be available in June.

Currently printing Walid Raad's "Views from Inner to Outer Compartments". A fall release is scheduled.

Completing proofing Tom Sachs Space Program series of nine prints this month. Will be in production on the editions this summer.

Jonas Wood has completed two etchings working towards an eight print series.

Met with Josiah McElheny and discussed a project based on our shared interest in particle physics and inflationary cosmology.

Liza Lou continues to work on plates in Durban, South Africa.

Charline Von Heyl will work in the Santa Monica studio at the end of December.

All of these projects will be released in 2013.

The eight print William Leavitt portfolio, Biome, is being released September 1.

Roger Herman has completed a seven print series of drypoints with ink wash that will be released in October.

Liza Lou is actively working on a series of eight etchings.

David Musgrave has completed a mezzotint and three etchings and is working on additional plates.

Both of these portfolios will be finished before the end of the year.

Charline Von Heyl will begin working at EJS this winter, as will Jonas Wood.

Working with Gert & Uwe Tobias on a series of etching/white ground prints.

Art Brut and 19th century drawings done by schizophrenics are antecedents for the work.

The project will be published by EJS in early 2012 and was arranged by the Museum of Modern Art in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition Print Out which will open at MoMA February 18, 2012. The exhibition will include the Tobias portfolio as well as other EJS publications from the MoMA collection.

Six Etchings by Jonathan Lasker and Quiet Noise, an eight print portfolio, by Dave Muller are set for May release.

Greenhouse Britain by Helen Mayer Harrison and Newton Harrison will be published in June.

Greenhouse Britain documents the projected levels of ocean rise over the coming decades and proposes housing solutions for the almost 8,000,000 people that will need to be relocated. It is comprised of etchings, screen prints and digital imagery and contains texts by the Harrisons with an epilogue by Amanda Boetzkes.

David Musgrave has completed a mezzotint and an etching and is currently working on two more plates at home in London.

Liza Lou came by the studio and took a plate to Durban to begin working on a series. She will return to SoCal in July and work at EJS for the summer.

William Leavitt and David Reed will also begin working on plates this summer.

Jonathan Lasker's six print series is currently being editioned. Dave Muller has been working on his prints (etching w/spitbite). He has nine plates going so far. Began a project with Helen and Newton Harrison titled "Greenhouse Britain". It combines maps, texts, and architectural plans and addresses global warming and its projected effect on the coast line of the British Isles. Jennifer Bolande will come by in January to discuss working together. Barry Le Va has a new series in mind.

The Edition Jacob Samuel archive has been jointly acquired by the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts at the Hammer Museum (UCLA) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The archive comprises approximately 800 pieces including one copy of all EJS publications, selected Litho Shop and Lapis publications as well as prints done for other publishers and benefit prints that were produced for museums and charities. There are also working proofs and trial proofs from a number of projects. An exhibition of EJS publications comprising over 600 prints will open at the Hammer Museum on May 23, 2010. An EJS catalogue raisonne will be published by LACMA and the Hammer after the exhibition.

A new Christopher Wool print is completed and signed. It is unusual for an EJS publication as it is a single print and with a paper size of 27 3/4" x 22 1/2" it is larger than usual. It is an edition of 8 w/2 a.p.'s.

Chris Burden's project, Coyote Stories, will be released in mid-November. The project consists of 10 etchings and 21 hand written texts that chronicle Burden's very personal encounters with coyotes in Topanga Canyon over a 25 year period. Barry McGee has started working on plates in his San Francisco studio and will come to Santa Monica to work (and surf) in mid-November.

John Baldessari's Some Narrow Views (either tall or wide) will be released November 1. I have just completed proofing a four print series with Ed Ruscha that should be ready around February 2005. In New York last week working on plates with Christopher Wool. A new project with Gabriel Orozco is under way. Began making plates with Sandeep Mukherjee, an artist from India who lives in L.A. Looking forward to a Santa Monica visit with Doris Salcedo to discuss the possibilities of working together.

Christopher Wool began working in the Santa Monica studio in April and hopes to complete plate work in the coming months. Andrea Zittel visited the studio and is thinking about what direction her project might go in......
